Anyone who’s ever tried managing care for a loved from a distance can relate to Pierre Pelletier’s story. As both his and his siblings’ parents’ health began to decline, the miles that separated them came into play as circumstance, adjustment and finally acceptance dictated their journey’s unfolding. by Home Healthcare Network on September 14, 2025 at 4:45 pm

Are all visits to the hospital emergency department or Doctor’s office absolutely necessary? What if patients could be empowered to deal with at least some of their medical issues in their own homes, thereby alleviating the added strain on our already overburdened health care system? That’s where Community Paramedicine comes in. As a former First Responder, Lianna Corsini brings her own story into this vital role which adds an extra level of support to ongoing patient care. • Healing a Caregiver
by Home Healthcare Network on June 23, 2025 at 5:25 pm

Where did the name for this podcast series - Caring for Changes - come from? In 2017, host BJ Doyle wrote a one-time only blog about the early days of shepherding his partner Judy’s journey into Early Onset Alzheimer Disease. The piece, titled “Caring for Changes, Healing a Caregiver”, was later picked up and published by the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. He shares it as written in this episode. • Advocating For Self-Advocacy
by Home Healthcare Network on May 12, 2025 at 4:59 pm

Like many areas across Canada, BC’s Sunshine Coast continues to experience a shortage of healthcare providers. And with approximately 1/3rd of the local population at present without a family doctor, making the best uses of what resources and supplementary programs are available is key. That can often depend upon a person’s ability to advocate—not only for themselves but often for loved ones who can’t speak up. • Love is Not a Burden
by Home Healthcare Network on March 15, 2025 at 6:06 pm

Imagine a lifetime of caregiving for your child with a lived experience of having a disability from birth right through to adulthood. Of being thrust into a space early-on where you have to constantly advocate and push the envelope to ensure your child’s quality of life. And then having to deal with your own mortality as you begin to grow older. This episode attempts to shed light on one such parent/child’s shared journey together—a journey imbued with both love and determination. Meet BJ Doyle, part of the team at #HHNBC. BJ’s exposure to Home Healthcare Network was first as a client, engaging respite services while caregiving full-time for his wife, Judy. After her passing, BJ spent time in volunteer work with those afflicted by Alzheimer’s, prior to successfully completing an online course through the University of Tasmania in Australia, to further his understanding of dementia disorders.

Inspired by these events he approached #HHNBC’s Founder and Owner Caroline Gagne about coming on board in the role of companion caregiver. As Caroline’s attitude was basically “experience makes an expert,” BJ then joined our team in Summer 2019.

As a former broadcast professional, BJ brings years of on-air experience in radio to his role as host of #HHNBC’s podcast “Caring For Changes.”

“I’m interested in helping others, especially those in the early stages of their affliction as I believe it’s about living in THEIR world and assisting each individual with retaining as much of their autonomy as possible for as long as possible,” says BJ. “See the person, not the disease” sums up BJ’s approach to companion caregiving. And through shepherding his own partner’s journey to its completion, a newfound passion for the enriching rewards that caregiving brings runs deep. As BJ adds: “Sometimes you have to reach into someone else’s world to find what’s missing in your own.”
